Final Stretch

Final Stretch was my final project for my Unreal class during my senior year at university. The goal for the project was to take the knowledge our class had learned throughout the semester (as a class and individually) and combine it into a single quick project.

My Responsibilities

*All functionality was created using Blueprints*

- Creating & Implementing Flamethrower Ability w/ aiming

- Creating & Implementing Torchlight Ability

- Creating Enemy AI that follows the player with health functionality

- Implementing Tutorial UI

- Implementing UI & Functionality for Menus

- Creating the Environment with Unreal Terrain Tool

- Creating collision intractability for the player with the crystals, chest, lava, and enemies

- Creating & implementing sound for the Flamethrower

- Adding Sprint functionality for the player

My Design Process:

Throughout the class, I presented three topics on what I learned individually about Unreal Engine: Unreal Terrain, Enemy Design, & Flame Abilities.

With these three functions being the core of my final project, I looked at what I could implement to bring all of these functions into one. I centered my gameplay around avoiding enemies and reaching the end or taking out enemies and reaching the goal, so I had the flamethrower ability to act as an interactable for enemies and objects like crystals.

After implementing the functions for enemies and the flamethrower, I created an area for platforming. With the platforming complete thanks to the landscaping tool, I implemented an object to kill the player when they interacted with it so players could feel risks while traveling.

At the end of this project and the class, I felt that my knowledge of Unreal Engine significantly increased; and I plan to continue working on creating various projects in the Engine.
