Doommates

Game Information

Doommates is a Visual Novel game I gathered a team of 13 to create for the Spooktober 5th Annual Visual Novel Jam.  How far would you challenge fate for your Roommate?  For Quinn, she'd do anything for her friend/roommate, Oscar.  Despite their strained friendship, she doesn't want any harm to come his way.  Play as Quinn as you attempt to preserve Oscar's life (and your friendship).  Can you subvert destiny's plans?

My Responsibilities

- Led and organized a team of 13 to develop the project

- Scheduled meetings to discuss team progress and brainstorm ideas for the project

- Wrote and edited scripts for the game

- Implemented scripts and character art into Unity Engine via the Yarn Spinner tool

- Participated in narrative design meetings to discuss main plot ideas and provide feedback

- Provided feedback to artists and programmers regarding their work

- Worked with UI and art team to create the main menu

- Tested the project to look for bugs or narrative inconsistencies

My Design Process:

After the initial team meetings to discuss the theme and main plot of the game, I divided the narrative into three acts, taking responsibility for writing the second and third acts. After creating the initial drafts, I looked for feedback regarding the story's pacing and character behavior to maintain consistency between the scripts written.

With the final edits to the script, I began implementing it and character art into Yarn Spinner. I listed out the events when characters would change sprites to match the dialogue tone changes of the characters. After I implemented the scripts and art and organized them in a sequence of events, I played through the project to look for bugs and monitored other playtesters to see how they played and what bugs they came across.
